Why choose online counselling?
There are many reasons why you might choose online counselling. These include convenience, mobility, finding writing therapeutic, as an easier way to gather your thoughts, or as a transition to face-to-face counselling.
You might find that getting to a face-to-face counselling session is difficult for you because you live in a remote area, or you are a carer. If you suffer from anxiety and the thought of seeing a counsellor face-to-face fills you with panic, you might find that online counselling is just the stepping stone you are looking for to work on this issue.
If you are someone with who is hard of hearing, you might find that email counselling or Instant Messaging (IM) works very well for you.
Email counselling allows time for reflection and can give you more time to think and write about the things you want to talk about. This reflection time can be very therapeutic and rather like writing a journal, it builds on self-awareness.
In text based counselling because you have a written record, you can return to an email or an IM transcript and reread what has been written. It can help you to understand yourself better.
I specialise in providing online counselling for the hard of hearing. The different ways that I can provide online counselling include by encrypted or password protected emails or by Instant Messenger (IM). For more information about online security, please see our article.
